How to Manage Moving After Major Life Transitions

Keeping Your VoIP Phone System Secure

Switching to a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) phone system from a traditional business phone system can save your company a good amount of money. However, even though it costs less money to install and maintain a VoIP phone system than a traditional landline system, VoIP systems aren't as secure. So, when you install your new phone system, you need to take some time to learn how you can keep your phone network safe from hackers. After all, the last thing you want is for hackers to send a virus into your system or obtain confidential company information.

Create a Strong Password

Hackers need to determine your password to gain access to your system. So, you need to make sure you have a password that is strong enough to hold the hackers off. Avoid choosing a password that's simple or a password that means something to you. You need to make sure your password has lowercase and uppercase letters, numbers, and symbols. A good way to create a strong password that you can remember is to think of a phrase, quote, or saying that you like and use the first letter of each work in the saying. For example, is your favorite quote is "If you can dream it, you can do it," the letters in your password would be "iycdiycdi." Once you have the letters that you want to use, all you need to do is decide which letters to capitalize. Then, add a few numbers and symbols into the mix. Remember, you can add numbers and symbols easily by replacing letters with similar numbers or symbols. For example, an "A" can become the "at sign" and an "S" can be replaced with a five or a dollar sign.

Control System Access

You can control access to your system by requiring individual IP addresses to be whitelisted before they use the system. This way, only people working from IP addresses that you've approved can access your system remotely. Your VoIP system will automatically block access to any computers with IP addresses that haven't been previously approved.

Maintaining Your Phone System

To make sure your system remains secure, you need to maintain it properly. This means you should always make sure your VoIP phone system's software is current. Additionally, you should consider having your phone system tested by a professional occasionally to see if there are any weak points in your security system.

Don't allow the possibility of hackers gaining access to your system to keep you from upgrading your company's phone system. Instead, make sure you take the steps needed to make sure your phone system is secure.
